ranks;;
SHH is a battlefield. A bloody, broken battlefield of doctors. Chosen weapons? Deceit and scalpels. The teams? A free-for-all. Where do you stand?
The Departments
SHH offers a variety of departments, from hard core surgery to the emergency room grunts.
Surgery
The most popular department at SHH, surgery never fails to attract the most interns and new doctors every year. Slice them, dice them, whatever.
Pediatrics
Everything from childbirth to care of children up to four years.
Emergency Room
Often working hand in hand with surgery, the ER doctors take of all the middle-of-the-night calls. Then, they call surgery to do the work.
The Ranks
The Chiefs
The top of each department. The top of the surgical food chain, so to speak. Always fighting over which department should have the largest share of the budget during board meetings, leave it to them to sneer their noses down at you.
The Attendings
Constantly competing for Chief of their service, the attendings are the real doctors around SHH. They are allowed to choose their cases, and are expected to teach and evaluate interns.
The Residents
Residents have made it through the slop of their intern year, but still have a long way to go. As well as being expected to manage their own interns, they are assigned a variety of cases to handle. The residents are allowed to give on case to each intern, and must handle the remainder themselves. At the end of the year, only three residents are chosen to move on to their attending year.
The Interns
Grunts. Nobodies. Bottom of the food chain. Teamed in groups of three and four, the interns are assigned cases by their resident. They then work with attendings. At the end of each year, five interns are chosen to move on to their resident year.
cases;;
SHH is based on cases, and cases only. Every morning, cases are posted on the board. Attendings are required to take at least one or two cases each time a new case thread is posted. They are allowed to choose their cases.
Residents are assigned cases by their chief.
In turn, the residents are allowed to give each of their interns one case.
Cases vary from day to day. They are roleplayed out, with the attending also roleplaying the patient.
time;;
Time at SHH is very simple. One month = one IC year.
At the end of every month, the list of interns and residents moving on next year will be posted. Each real month is one in-game year.
After every five years, Chiefs are expected to retire. New chiefs are then reelected.
Attendings may keep their positions for 20 in-game years. After then, they are expected to retire.
After every year, the admin will go through and age each character by one year. You are expected to change whatever information you have in your signature also.
promotions;;
Who moves on and who stays depends entirely on a meeting attended by attendings and chiefs at the end of each year. There, they pick the residents and interns who are ready to move on. The board has the final say in who stays and who is promoted.
